@KNERDCULTURE: Well, Didnt Expect to Be Here: Reading Slump Edition

Well, I didn't expect to be here....Still.

The @KNERDCULTURE Blog is here! I'm so excited that I have started a place to share my nerdy pursuits and what continues to persist....My Reading Slump.

Fantasy books are a love of mine and the movies/tv they spawn & if you are like me, you jump in head first and dive deep in to the worlds that authors have created! It's exhilarating, but, then you look around and there are not a lot of readers in your friend circles who go that far...so there is no one to pull you out of the slump. bummer.

I just finished Robin Hobb's Fool's Assassin. It's the first book of three but there were six other Fitz Farseer books that came before. I have read them all & upon conclusion of Fool's Assassin, I did my normal...

* morned that it ended
* rejoiced that there are more coming
* marked the calendar for a year from now *hoping for that to be the release date*
* stared at my overloaded bookcase unable to meet my next adventure

And still no decisions were made.

I was bummed and then today happened.
scrolling through Twitter I found two posts I am very thankful for:
  1. Book Riot's post:  "5 Tips For Getting Out of a Long-Term Reading Slump"
  2. Open Culture's post: "Read 14 Great Banned & Censored Novels Free Online: For Banned Books Week 2014"
After looking back on the past couple weeks, maybe I need what Book Riot suggests - #4 Plan A Reading Day. I can do that. Still, it leaves me with nothing to read. And then...I scroll upon Open Culture's post.

I don't really care that its "Banned Books Week" but I do love all of the outlets talking about these books because they are out of my scope. They are out of my high-fantasy, lets learn a new vocab, build a world, etc....scope. Um, Eureka Moment happening? Yes!

Maybe a Reading Day in my favorite chair, with a no-dollar commitment, genre changing suggestion from Open Culture's list of free online reads might just do the trick. Can Sunday come quick enough? We'll see.
